They Just Don’t Get It: Hulu Plus

by Randy Murray on May 27, 2014

I am really looking forward to the day when I can “cut the cable” and watch what I want, when I want. I’m willing to pay for it.

And I’ve tried. I’ve subscribed to Hulu Plus (I got a one year subscription with the last TV I purchased) and was prepared to love it.

Sorry. Can’t. It completely sucks.

Hulu Plus offers you the ability to stream network television programs on demand for a monthly fee. Great idea!.

Except that they stream everything WITH commercials. Commercials that you can’t fast forward through. Even though you’ve already paid for the service. The Hulu system is further crippled by only offering a handful of recent episodes of shows, not the entire season or series.

Hulu Plus does not equal Netflix. I really don’t get the point of subscribing to Hulu.

I’d much rather just record programs on my DVR and fast forward through the commercials. I am happy to pay to NOT watch commercials.

I don’t watch TV shows on my phone or tablet. I just want to pay someone to have access to a handful of programs that I’d like to see. I really don’t feel like I should pay someone to watch their commercials.

Oh, and to make matters worse, it’s clear that Hulu Plus sucks at advertising sales, too. Each program you watch is littered with the same few commercials over and over again. It’s not an effective marketing technique. It’s a form of punishment. Why is Hulu Plus trying to train me not to use Hulu Plus?

That’s the real question.

TL;DR Wikipedia said the same thing, perhaps more to the point.
