Spring For Writers: Clean Your Desk

by Randy Murray on April 18, 2012

Spring cleaning is a rumored activity of the past and let’s face it, your desk could use a proper cleaning. Opening your windows to the fresh Spring air is a good reminder for you to quit putting it off and get it done.

Here’s what I recommend:

  1. Completely empty the desk surface. Remove EVERYTHING.
  2. Dust, then wash your desk. Better yet, disinfect it as much as possible.
  3. Start putting things back, cleaning them as you replace each object.
  4. Put only the most essential objects back on your desk.
  5. Put everything else away somewhere else, everything that’s not essential, that you don’t need right now to do your work. Or discard them.

Then enjoy, for a brief moment, your clean desk.

Then get back to writing.
