Writing Assignment: Write About The Reason You Can’t Write

by Randy Murray on June 6, 2014

Having trouble sitting down and writing?

Why is that?

Yeah, I understand. Because reasons.

Maybe you can’t hear yourself. Some people have really good reasons. They work 18 hours a day to keep their heads above water. They are occupied with potentially overwhelming issues.

How do your reasons stack up? There’s one way to find out: get them down on paper.

For today’s assignment, write our your reasons why you can’t write.

Today we won’t concern ourselves with the responses to these reasons. Just write down your reasons.

I’m not going to pass judgement on you. I’m not going to read your list. Be honest with yourself and get those reasons out of your head and onto paper. Paper, not a screen, paper.

Possible reasons you might explore:

  • I don’t write very well.
  • I don’t have any good ideas.
  • I don’t have time.
  • I don’t believe I can finish what I want to write.

Be specific and try and get down all of your reasons.

Live with this list for a few days before you attempt to cross any items off.
