Really Good Reasons Why Not To Write—#1 Thinking Is Writing

by Randy Murray on August 4, 2014

We writers are a curious lot. It seems that a large number of us spend most of our time trying to avoid doing that thing which we claim we love.

But fear not! There are some really good reasons not to write. This week and the next I’ll provide you with several excellent reasons to let you avoid writing and still remain 100% guilt-free.

Here’s the first reason: Thinking Is Writing

This is completely true. A large part of writing doesn’t take place at the keyboard. It takes place in your head. It takes time. When asked what you’re doing today or what you’ve accomplished you can say, “I’ve been working on my writing project,” when, in fact, you’ve been running errands or sitting in the coffee shop.

Thinking.

This is a valid, true, and accurate excuse. Use it anytime you can’t be bothered to write.

Or you could just write.
