Divide Your Attention – You Are A Genius

by Randy Murray on October 21, 2010

So, Einstein, have you got it all figured out yet?

Don’t look at me. I haven’t mastered every aspect of life either. But that doesn’t stop me from sitting down every day and wrestling with it. And I watch people as they move about and I’ve come to this conclusion: virtually every human being is a miraculous genius.

Do you have any idea how wonderful and mysterious a thing sentience and thought are? Have you pondered at any length about the wonder of language? Have you looked at the power and control we wield over the natural world? This thing we all share, the spark of intelligence, is genius itself.

Maybe you should cut yourself some slack about all the things you can’t do, about all of the work that’s piled up, about how complex your life seems. You Sir, and you, Madam, are geniuses.

You can master your life. You have capabilities beyond every other creature on this planet. And when we work together, there is nothing we can’t accomplish. We have teased out the secrets of matter and energy.  We have learned to fly, and once mastered, traveled to the moon, all in the space of one human lifetime, a single generation.

And that is why I am convinced that you can master your own attention and focus. You can accomplish more. You can master the seeming crush of projects. You are not unfulfilled potential. You are a genius.

And as our greatest minds have discovered, you can rediscover that secret as well. When you have something to do, do just that thing. Do just one thing at a time. You can do more than one thing, just not at the same time. Master this, and you can bring the full power of your mind, a true thing of genius, to bear on what you are doing. It is an awesome amount of power to wield.

I expect great things from you.

Thanks, Jim. It’s something I really believe. I’ve seen it as a parent and although it’s taken me a long while to recognize it for myself I fully believe it to be true.

Randy,
Whenever I get a (professional) massage I am convinced that the world would be a much better place if everyone were required to receive such an uplifting overhaul on a regular basis. This post that you’ve written, this post that congratulates, also stimulates and inspires. You’ve created a motivational masterpiece to be read, reread, and shared. Thanks!
