Simple Productivity Task Of The Day: Give Something Away

by Randy Murray on November 11, 2010

I love stuff, but too much of it can be a drag on you. Even things that you use require you to care for them and maintain them.

Today’s simple productivity tip is this: give something away.

If you look around yourself right now I’m betting you’ll see something that’s been bugging you. Something you aren’t quiet sure what do to with. You don’t want to throw it away, but you aren’t sure you need it.

Free yourself. Pick it up, take it with you, and find someone to give it to. Log into Craigslist and offer it up to anyone who will pick it up. Alert your friends on Facebook or tweet about it. But rid yourself of this thing. Someone else may be happy to have it, but you will be lighter without it. You’ll feel better. And then you can look for the next thing to get rid of.

Remember: he who dies with the most toys is still dead. We the living need to lighten our load and find it easier to get things done using only what’s essential.

For advanced credit, give away something you really like and value, but don’t use.

Here’s a list of other Simple Productivity Tasks Of The Day.

Just about a week ago, I gave away a bunch of clothing of mine. Immediately afterwards, I felt a lot better. My closet is more spacious and I feel good about the charity.

De-cluttering is just so good.
